| The business of Life Insurance is all about social security and protection i.e. aimed at the well being of human beings and the society as a whole. One of the five core values of the Company is Corporate Citizenship which stresses the fact that businesses and markets are essentially aimed at the welfare of society and thus complement each other. |
|
As a part of its commitment to CSR, the presentation of life insurance policies to 8 underprivileged children at launch was the first step towards this initiative.

| 16th June 2008: Mr P Chidambaram, former Union Minister of Finance, presented the first set of policies of the newly-launched Canara HSBC Oriental Bank of Commerce Life Insurance Company to underprivileged children at the company launch. The Company focuses its efforts in two areas: financial inclusion (child education, women empowerment, skill development, capacity building for youth, women etc) and environment (biodiversity/wildlife, natural resources and livelihoods).

Initiatives: Key Highlights
|
Newspaper and Magazine Donation Drive An ongoing initiative in line with the Company focus areas, protection of the environment and financial inclusion, sensitizes employees on the effects of deforestation, global warming and climate change. To save trees, employees are encouraged to regularly donate waste paper for recycling, which in turn provides earning opportunities to the marginalized sections of society.

Earth Hour 2010 The Company participated in WWF Earth Hour 2010, the worlds largest initiative against global warming and climate change. All employees pledged their support, helped create awareness among family, friends and neighbours and switched off lights from 8:30-9:30pm on 27th March 2010. Employees in the NCR showed support by participating in WWF cyclothone,pedal for the Planet to create awareness amongst the public. The Company CO2 emission savings for the Earth Hour 2010 was approximately a little above 0.9 Tonnes. |

Continuous Efforts
The Company seeks to minimize the impact of the business on the environment, have a positive effect on society and support/work with other organizations who embrace these objectives. Towards this direction, the Company has taken steps to use natural resources responsibly, work with community projects and encourage and educate employees in these goals.
The Company has initiated and planned many activities aimed at protecting the environment and improving lives of the disadvantaged communities. |
Throughout the year, employees volunteer and spend time with children studying/associated with our empanelled NGOs and conduct sessions on the environment, career planning and different craft and skills. The Company also buys stationery etc made out of recycled paper and follows an 'e-comms' or 'green comms' policy that aims at minimal use of paper for communication.
Regular campaigns like waste paper donation to NGOs for recycling, donation of clothes, footwear and other utility items to the needy for reuse/recycle are some of the other important activities undertaken by the Company.

Continuous efforts, employees volunteer throughout the year be it teaching children at NGOs, conserving the environment by planting trees or interacting with leaders like Dr Kiran Bedi to understand the needs of the community.
